When I reached womanhood in the '70s the message I got was that I had to have sex to be modern, liberated, free. I had a lot of sex, but mostly I felt used and devalued by those encounters. Yet the opposite message of purity also devalues women, turning them into prized objects passed from father to husband. I like your term, "sex agent," and the idea of women switching the focus from pleasing others to pleasing ourselves. That confirms that there's no "right" or "normal" amount of sex.
