What a brilliant analysis of what's at the core of the biggest problems facing our world today--from war, to immigration, to gender and racial equity, to LGBTQ+ and personal rights. I have also noticed binary thinking as a central flaw in the criminal justice system in the U.S., where people are found either guilty or innocent. As if there's no in between.
When I was a high school teacher, I coached the mock trial team. It was only then, when I was examining the system up close, that I realized the point wasn't to uncover the truth or to deliver justice. It was to win. The outcome was simply a matter of which team of lawyers did a better job. That's why rich people often get off--or one of the reasons. (Systemic racism is also a prime determinant.) They have the $ to hire the best lawyers. It's a badly structured system, from the ground up.
