This is going to get worse in California, where lawmakers ignored the experts (teachers) and are now requiring school to start later each day. When are young people who don’t start school until 8:30 or later going to do their homework? The new law disrupts sports, theater and other after school activities, which are sometimes the best things happening at school. If you’ve ever gone to a conference where you have to listen to one speaker after another for six hours straight, you can get a sense of what it’s like to be in high school. It’s exhausting. I agree homework should be banned. That would also level the playing field and address the equity issue you raise.
