This is a naive question but if plastic was created, why can’t it be un-created? I don’t understand why the components used in the first place can’t be taken apart and broken down in the second. I only know a couple of scientists, but they are both working on cancer drugs. It seems that’s all the corporations will pay for — something with a potential to make money. Are there any scientists working on how to break down plastic? Where are they working? Who pays them?

Here’s a story about a new enzyme that eats plastic — created accidentally... https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/scientists-accidentally-create-mutant-enzyme-can-break-down-plastic-180968881/

Great article. Thanks!
