This is a charming story, Mona--just what I needed this morning! Thank goodness the little girl you were had the intelligence, self determination and self respect to forge her own path. And isn't it interesting that even though men may THINK they'd like their partner to also be their cook and maid, it often doesn't make them happy. I think we all know the difference between right and wrong deep down, and screwing over your partner by pressuring them to do most of the work is obviously wrong...
