Thank you for your comment and guidance. I’ll remember it next time I pass by a police interaction with a black person. It’s scary for me to interfere, because I was taught by my own father (who had bipolar disorder) to be afraid of policemen. But I think just pulling up enough courage to film it on my phone — where police can see me filming — is a powerful intervention. Then authority figures know they are being held accountable.
As to white fear of black people, it might stem from knowing that blacks have a lot of REASON to be angry and retaliate against whites, who took so much from their ancestors, and are still taking today. But you’re right. The real danger is the other way around.
All this is made worse by having a racist in the White House, who encourages white supremecists to come out and riles them up at his rallies. I hope and pray for that to change next year.
