Thank you for living here. As a white person living in SF, I hate that our black population has shrunk. I’ve lived in California all my life and can fall prey to involuntary racism because of the almost all-white environment I grew up and live in. I lead tours and when a black family showed up recently I felt my heart rate increase. I had to consciously shut that down. It wouldn’t happen if I interacted with black people more often. I thirst for black culture and influence. I consume black written/directed/acted media, but it’s not enough. I love SF but fear for our future because of the horrible wealth disparity here. Please know you are welcome and valued and important. I hope you’ll come to feel like the commentor Kevin Williams who points out it’s other people’s problem — not yours. We need you, and 500,000 more people like you in SF.
