Recently, I've read that the Menendez brothers may get a new trial since their father had raped them all their lives. Their first trial resulted in a hung jury for that reason. At their second trial, the judge disallowed evidence about the rapes. Meanwhile, many women are in jail for killing their abusers. Yet as far as I know, "crime of passion" is still used as a defense that allows a husband to kill a cheating wife. I'd love to read a story from you about gender and justice. Are men free to kill wives more often than wives to kill husbands? When does justification or provocation mitigate a murder charge? This sounds like a terrible miscarriage of justice. I hope those working for Charlie's release will one day be successful.
