People in the West like to pretend we have evolved beyond brutal traditions like virginity testing, but the misogyny still runs deep in the U.S. and elsewhere. I believe it is all connected--that WE are all connected--and it's wrong to ignore brutality just because it happens far from home. All women should support and educate each other and stand together to make misogyny stop. It is one of many cancers destroying our world.
