Mark is able to see now that he isn't necessarily always right. The last time we had a disagreement (and they are far fewer now), instead of going into a silent funk, he told me what was wrong--how he was feeling. We discussed it. And then we got over it. The whole process took an hour instead of three days! It was a marvelous relief to see this kind of progress. He's beginning to be able to recognize his feelings, communicate them, and alter his behavior. Me listening to his point of view and responding without defensiveness or blowing up helps make that possible. We are both still learning.
