I'm with you. The author used a few details of Alexis' life, which she should have changed, but drew her portrait of "Charles" from her own knowledge of him and made the experience universal, mirroring experiences many women have had and moving a multitude of readers in the process. That's what writers do. It's a great short story. Alexis herself thought the details were a coincidence until she found out Charles knew the author. I'm not mad at the author for making this work of art.
