I’m 66 years old and just now learning to pay attention to and try to express how I REALLY feel instead of performing some idea of how I’m supposed to feel, like an actress in a play. I’m also working on learning how to be anti-racist. My city is overwhelmingly white, a big drawback, but I’m glad I can find and read Black female voices on Medium — regular voices, not Ivy League journalists working for the New York Times. That’s Medium’s biggest value, as far as I’m concerned: offering people like me an opportunity to read writers like you and others I don’t come across in daily life. Thanks for this piece.
