I want to add that I know a man who was taken from his alcoholic and mentally unstable parents at age 4 and was very glad to be raised by kind and loving people instead. He has scars on his legs--he doesn't know how they got there. He heard from neighbors that his bio parents used to put cigarettes out on their four kids' bodies. So adoption is not always a bad idea. But I see now that it might be a bad idea a lot more often than I realized.
