I think of it more as using Jesus to represent something like what AA people call a “higher power, whatever that means to you.” Pagans also believe in a spirit that animates the world. To me, all religion is an attempt to understand that unknowable force. Maybe grandma could get that if you put it in her terms? Just a thought…
