I saw a movie about James Baldwin that juxtaposed a scene of Doris Day singing sweetly about her boyfriend in a perfect kitchen with images of Black people being brutalized in protests and riots. I can't un-see it now. She became in my mind an image of white supremacy and obliviousness to Black lives and pain. I already felt a bit embarrassed about my childhood admiration of her. But now, it's more like shame. It's a really powerful movie called "I Am Not Your Negro." Have you seen it?
