I love this story. I love the idea of all genders being protective. With men, it sometimes veers into a claim of ownership. I am completely creeped out by fathers who want to "protect" their daughters from any boyfriends that might come around, for example. That reads like her body belongs to Dad. Like she's his girlfriend! Like her virginity is his business. But standing up for what's right and good for the community is the kind of protection we all can applaud. And women can be fierce protectors, as you're pointing out. We should tap into that energy as much as we can to protect our environment.
