I had a literal mental breakdown in college which is where I first realized that sexism existed. I guess I was a slow learner? Hahahah! But I hadn't experienced anything like the blatant condescension I got as a woman at UCSB before. LSD precipitated the breakdown (it was the '70s), but sexism was the theme. Sexism was so rampant in the classroom that I wondered if I should drop my science courses and focus exclusively on the humanities. My first-year college experience fully sucked on all levels, and sexism was the root of that. Thank you for this piece.
