… yes, he lies. This is provable. But the strength of this rally wasn’t about the facts and figures. It was a group of people who felt like they had someone in their corner, that would fight for them. Some people say “well obviously they’re having a great time. They’re in a cult.” I don’t think that’…
I don’t understand what Trump supporters believe he’s done for them. Kept immigrants out of the country? Is that it? I think separating children from their families and putting them in cages at the border is pure evil — many have died! — and for that reason alone I could never vote for Trump. As far as I can see he’s making terrible decisions re: our environment, opening up spaces for drilling and logging that were protected before. He’s actually suing California for its clean air laws! He’s taking away women’s rights. Roe v. Wade is close to being overturned, thanks to the men he put on the Supreme Court. He’s trying to dismantle Obamacare and its protection of people with pre-existing conditions. He’s running cons like charging the secret service outrageous prices to stay at his properties. And he’s flouting laws — inviting Russia to meddle in our elections; extorting Ukraine to do the same, getting the Justice Department and other agencies that are supposed to be independent to do his bidding, dropping charges against his friends, etc. On top of all that, he’s a horrible, hate-filled man, who mocks and scorns and insults anyone who disagrees with him and thinks that’s admirable behavior.
So where’s the good? The stock market is sky high, but that just means the rich are getting richer. Are most Trump voters rich? Is that it? I’m working class, and I don’t notice any reduction in my taxes or improvement in my financial health. You mention people being in a good mood and feeling proud of their country at the rally. That’s really nice. But I want a lot more than a fun feeling from my president. I want policies that protect the environment, women’s rights, health care, and human rights — even rights of immigrants.
Obviously, I’m a Democrat, and yes, I’m depressed. So I have no doubt the Dem rallies you attended were less joyful than Trump’s. Your article was interesting. But I sure hope you are wrong about November.
