I consider myself a good person, but I don't have an absolute definition of what that means. Other people may be "good" in ways that I am not. My definition of "goodness" is to do no harm. But also, to recognize the inherent worth of every living (and even non-living!) thing. For example, a river might not be considered "living" by some people, but if you harm a river, I believe you have done a bad thing. I was recently talking to a friend about a thinker who talks of everything, even rocks, having a kind of consciousness, even if it is very different than human consciousness. You might be interested. I think his name was David Chalmers. Thank you for this thought provoking piece.
