I agree. I'm not advocating for avoiding conflict. Conflict is necessary to object to bigotry and hate. And I don't imagine that if I treat others with human decency, they will do the same for me. But just because others are douchebags doesn't mean I must become one. I still have to live with myself. And because i love and respect myself, I choose to be a decent human being.
