Excellent piece, as usual. But doctors don’t always agree, unbelievably. The US has the highest maternal death rate in the developed world—700-900 a year—in part due to doctors favoring the baby over the mother. The CDC estimates that 60% of these deaths are preventable. The disdain for women represented in the draft opinion is pervasive and deadly.
