Disarming police is not a pipe dream, but a system working in 18 countries worldwide which results in significantly fewer gun deaths. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/countries-where-police-do-not-carry-guns.html

It's not "realistic" to support the status quo simply because it's in place. When a system isn't working, other methods should be tried.

We agree that police shouldn't be answering calls to help the homeless or people with mental health problems. So why don't we defund the police, by which I mean reduce their funding, and use that money to create jobs for people better equipped to answer those calls?

And how about a general compromise on guns? A few special forces carry guns (perhaps the FBI, as you suggest, and others chasing violent criminals) but beat cops doing community policing do not?

I'm not saying I have all the answers, but it's clear that things need to change if we want to live in a safe and just society. And disarming the citizenry is part of the puzzle.

It's not "freedom" for scary men to walk around with big guns to intimidate and threaten people in the state capital as they did in Michigan. https://medium.com/fourth-wave/armed-men-in-public-arent-a-symbol-of-freedom-e034b3b7beeb?source=friends_link&sk=39fe0ade308842360ffe87fdae1fc868
